England won the toss and opted to bat first. But the start from the hosts was horrifying. Mitchell Starc started well with the new ball and picked two wickets in two balls of the first over. Roy and Root even get the time to settle as they were dismissed for ducks.

Then skipper Morgan and Bairstow steadied the ship with a partnership of 67 runs. It was a counter-attacking stand between the two. Both Morgan and Bairstow played freely and aggressive shots, which helped England to be in the game.

Adam Zampa gave Australia a vital breakthrough as he got the wicket of England’s captain for 28 runs. Jos Buttler continued his poor form in this crucial encounter; just before England could reach the 100 run mark, Buttler was caught brilliantly by Aussie Skipper Finch. Zampa took his second wicket in the form of Buttler, who departed after he scored just eight runs.

Sam Billings and Johnny Bairstow batted well again. They took England close to the total in the 1st ODI match, and in this match, they shared a partnership that took the game away from the visitors, Australia. Bairstow slammed his superb century and set the tone for England to clinch the series.

While Sam Billings played a useful knock in this game, after he scored his maiden ton in the opening match, Sam aimed to end the series on a high. He shared a gusty partnership of 114 runs with Bairstow and kept England in the game.

Sam Billings kept playing the reverse sweep and earned boundaries. But this time, his reverse sweep short got a top edge of Adam Zampa’s bowling, and Mitchell Starc took a comfortable catch. Billings was out for well made 57 runs, and Zampa was successful in breaking this huge stand.

England reached the 300 run mark despite early hiccups, even tough Johnny Bairstow was not there till the end. Bairstow’s lovely innings was ended when he was clean bowled by Pat Cummins for 112 runs.

It was Chris Woakes who guided England towards the 300 run mark. Tom Curran played a supporting role, but he scored just 19 runs. At the same time, Adil Rashid was the man who stayed till the end of the 50 overs. Woakes contributed very well towards the end. If he was also out before the 50 overs, England wouldn’t have made 300 plus runs on the board.

Woakes scored a vital and unbeaten knock of 53 runs, which came off just 38 deliveries, and he was supported well by Adil Rashid, who was not out on 11 runs. From 0 for 2, England still managed to score 302 runs for the loss of seven wickets after their 50 overs quota was completed.

For Australia, it was Strac who made early inroads. But once the ball was old, he struggled to maintain that pressure. Zampa operated well in the middle overs. Both Starc and Zampa picked up three wickets each to their names, While Cummins picked up one wicket in this match.

Australia had a decent start compared to England’s 0 for the loss of two wickets in the first over. Warner and Finch had put on 21 runs in 2.5 overs. But they needed a significant partnership to chase down this challenging score post by the home team.

But Woakes continued his brilliance with the new ball. He picked up the Australian Skipper Aaron Finch for just 12 runs in the second over. Then it was the same usual story of Marcus Stoins, who again failed to impress at number 3 position. Stoinis was dismissed for just four runs.

Australia reached the 50 run mark with Labuschagne and Warner at the crease. But they got two big blows, which made their job tougher to chase this target. Warner and Marsh were out to the part-time bowling of Joe Root. Warner was dismissed for 24 runs, while Mitch Marsh was out for just two runs.

Australia went even more down when Marnus Labuschagne was run out for 21 runs. England was on top. It looked likely that the hosts will end up winning the ODI series as well. Australia has a never say die attitude. That came to the rescue of the visitors.

Alex Carey and Glenn Maxwell’s partnership took the game away from England. Their stand of 212 runs brought Australia close to the total set by England. Both the batsmen smashed their centuries in this decider match.

Maxi scored 108 runs, and Carey scored 106 runs, but they could not finish the game. This huge stand was broken Adil Rashid when Maxi was out, and later Jofra Archer picked up the wicket of another centurion, Alex Carey.

Rashid and Archer gave England another hope. But it was too late for England to come back as Pat Cummins and Mitchell Starc completed the winning runs with two balls to spare. Starc was unbeaten on 11 runs, and Cummins was not out on four runs as Australia chased this target down despite the early hiccups.
