Preview –
Australia’s Tour of England in 2020 starts with a T20 International Match. Australia hasn’t played any form of cricket for 5 months. While the hosts, England already had played two-Test series, 1 One-Day International series and 1 T20 International series.
It will be interesting to see how the Aussies handle the pressure after not playing for 5 months. England lost their last match against Pakistan at Old Trafford by a narrow margin. Now Morgan and his men will have a tougher challenge. England will have to come up with that close loss and they will have to win the series as well after they drew the last series against Pakistan.
Australia’s Team Preview –
Australia has a decent T20 side which could pose a challenge to any team in the world. Whether they play at home or outside, this Aussie team will be tough to beat. But here, Australia will be facing an in-form England Team, who rarely losses a match at home.
Australia now what they can get from this England team. These two opponents have played against each other regularly in all the three formats of the game. Australia’s dominance is firmly depended on their top 4 – Finch, Warner, Labuschagne and Smith.
These 4 players will hold the key for the visitors. The openers will have to give them the start which they need to excel in the latter part of the innings. The first six overs are important for both the teams in a T20 Match.
While bowling as well, Hazlewood and Cummins need to give some early breakthroughs with the new ball. Then in the middle order, the players like Labuschagne and Steve Smith can rotate the strike. Australia also has the players to finish the innings on a high. With Maxwell and Carey, one will expect an onslaught from the lower order batsmen from Australia.
Glenn Maxwell will be coming from a break. He stopped playing International Cricket due to his mental fitness. Now Maxi will be roaring to go against England on this tour. Maxwell’s spin bowling along with his aggressive batting will do wonders for Australia in the first match of the series.
Due to the presence of Maxwell, Australia will not have to get another spin bowler in their playing XI. Nathan Lyon can play at least the 1st T20I match as the lead spinner. Even though Adam Zampa and Ashton Agar are the other spin bowlers. But none of them will not make to the playing eleven as per our predictions.
Australia’s fast bowling is the best in the world. Mitchell, Cummins and Hazlewood can be lethal in the conditions of England. Even though none of these fast bowlers hasn’t played for a quite some time. But still, they are the best bowlers for Australia in this series.
Australia holds an upper hand in the T20 International matches played against England. The Aussies have won 9 matches from 16 T20I matches which have been played from 2005 to 2018. The last T20I match between these two was played in 2018. England won that match by 28 runs.
England’s Team Preview –
England should have won the series against Pakistan. Their bowling was decent in the last game. But their top 4 batsmen failed to contribute in that run chase. The likes of Johnny Bairstow, Eoin Morgan and Dawid Malan were the culprits who got out early.
Tom Banton was the only player who gave some fight. Banton had a good series against Pakistan and the home team will hope that he bats well against Australia in the 1st T20I match and rest of the series.
England had a sigh of relief when Moeen Ali struck an impressive half-century. His 61 run knock was the highlight of the match against Pakistan. Ali is expected to show more of his calibre against a tougher opponent.
Jos Buttler will hold the key after Skipper Eoin Morgan in the middle order. Buttler was rested in the ODI series against Ireland and T20I series against Pakistan. Now Buttler and Archer are in the playing XI for the first T20I against the Aussies.
Archer didn’t have a good Test series against West Indies and Pakistan. But in the absence of Ben Stokes, Jofra Archer is the senior bowler in the squad. He will be bowling with the new ball in the 1st T20I against Australia.
England’s limited over side under Morgan has been unbeatable. In 2018, England won the one-off T20I match against Australia and the hosts also have an upper hand when the matches of shortest format are played at home.
Australia has just 1 T20I win in England from 6 matches which has been played so far. That win for Australia came in Southampton seven years ago and since then it has been the home side England which is winning all the T20I matches played at their home.
